Quarter-Life Crisis.

It is a medical term for the phase after adolescence, usually for ages 21-30.  Experts have identified a point in many young people's lives referred to as a quarterlife crisis. Similar to a midlife crisis, it is characterized by a sense of anxiety and a feeling of being lost. During a quarterlife crisis, people often change jobs, change careers, and move, and their lives are significantly changed. However, college students and young adults can find ways to avoid this emotionally difficult state. Some symptoms:

  • Feeling not good about your job.
  • Frustration with relationships.
  • Insecurity about life goals.
  • Nostalgia for school.
  • A sense that everyone is better than you.

Furthermore, this stage occurs shortly after young, educated professionals enter the "real world" and then they realize that it is tougher, meaner and very much unforgiving.

And How to Avoid a Quarterlife Crisis?

  • Get an early start. A college degree pointing you in the direction of a career you would be happy in set a precedent of purpose and fulfillment for years to come.
  • Acquire relevant, real-world experience through networking, part-time work, co-op programs, internships and volunteering.
  • Learn all that you can about the type of career and job you want. Understanding what a typical day is like, what skills you need, what typical hours are and what salary to expect are all important in making this big life decision.
  • Find a mentor. It's helpful to have someone older to reflect on your goals, hesitations and ambition. Potential mentors can be family members, friends, professors and past or current bosses.
  • Discover yourself. Try new experiences, travel, meet different people and challenge yourself to do new things. Each of these shape who you are, what you want to be, what you love, and what you can become.

I'm experiencing this but I get comfort knowing that God is just there, and there's nothing I will do that will make Him love me any less. Whenever I feel so low, I just prayed and God easily lifts all my burdens, a gift that I feel so blessed to have. Prayers are more important and He's bigger than any of this so-called quarter-life crisis that's why I know I will always be okay. :)) ♥
